athens forever.

where to eat and drink in the greek capital.

A street scene in Athens, Greece

Athens is the living inspiration for AGORA.

We hoped when creating our Borough Market souvla bar that we might capture some of its pulsing energy, that flavour and rebellious character, in our menu and atmosphere.

We returned with our senior team this autumn so that they could first-hand experience it all. A whirlwind 72 hours of eating, drinking, and immersing into all things Athenian.

Here are their favourite picks.

1.        Taverna Ton Filon | Giulia, General Manager

Light-filled space by day and twinkling terrace by night, taverna ton filon is a hark back to humble, hearty Athenian cooking, updated with relaxed design.
Go for no-frills, hearty Greek food and impeccable service.

2.        Seychelles  | Gizem, Head Baker

This buzzing, beloved restaurant in Metaxourgeio serves experimental dishes such as pappardelle with lard, and boasts a curation of hard-to-come-by Greek island cheeses. Bookings are essential, and dishes sell out – so get your table in at the start of the evening to avoid disappointment.

3.     ΦΙΤΑ | filipe, co-head chef

Pronounced “fita”, this unassuming, chic restaurant serving mostly seafood is a budget friendly favourite for Athenians. Fresh, high-quality produce is cooked simply with creative flair. Most ingredients are sourced locally from small producers, with a menu changing constantly.

4.     Wine is fine | alessandra, head of wine

Amazing wine selection, knowledgeable, bubbly team, down to earth service. In the warmer months, tables spill out into the streets which helps you cosplay, for the duration of a glass or bottle of wine, as an Athenian.

the OMA and AGORA team in Athens.
